Tribute to Mum

I may be a day late to mark the official holiday, but as far as I’m concerned everyday should be Thanksgiving, especially where me mum is concerned. Next Tuesday marks 1 year since my dad passed away from COVID-19. While my mom has always inspired me, after watching her say goodbye to her husband of 50 years and uprooting her life in Chicago to Palm Desert, I find my heart more humbled than ever. She may be a wee 5’1”, but when it comes to grit, determination, and perseverance, I am still a toddler in her shadow.

Mom – While I got my wit, charm and rugged good looks from dad, it’s you that gifted me the most valuable lesson in life – how to laugh. Thank you for teaching me to fight, for demonstrating with grace how to confront and overcome pain.

When it comes to life, you are a champion, a role model that inspires me to be the unicorn I am today. Whenever I find myself lost in the clouds, reflecting on the hurt we’ve endured over the past year, I’ll be reminded of the silver linings surrounding me because of you. Through this breaking storm, I see a widow on a golf course, getting her first hole-in-one at 72. Despite any pain and loss weathered in this life, I see a resilient woman – who I’m proud to call me mum – emboldened by her pain, winning at life, one swing at a time….

Fouuuuur 😘❤️✨
