Not going to lie, 2018 brought me to my knees. It was brutal and one of my worst years to date (and I’ve had some doozies). I experienced loss and was confronted with a lot of personal and professional challenges that left me feeling defeated, disillusioned and numb at times.
With little reprieve, I took solace at the gym. The mornings before work became my sacred time when I could physically push back on my troubles. There was a lot of anger in my workouts, but lifting grounded me and proved to be therapeutic. It helped me to be less emotional and worrisome and more pragmatic and objective in hard times.
While 2018 was difficult to experience, it made me emotionally and physically stronger, and I’m grateful for the lessons, however painful. Because of it, I enter 2019 a little wiser and more confident and independent.
When I see my body now, I realize it is the byproduct of a lot of tears, hurt, and anger. It’s why I’ll be wearing this “outfit” at midnight tonight to ring in the New Year. It’s my due respect to 2018, and a bold first step (for me anyway) into 2019.
